I’m here at the 2009 Egyptian Event hosted by the Pyramid Society. It always stuns me how happy people are here just to be part of this annual event, and it begs the question….”Why are they so happy… and What can we learn”??

The Egyptian Event is the crown jewel event hosted by the Pyramid Society each year for its membership of Egyptian Arabian horse breeders at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington. First of all, their timing couldn’t be better…Kentucky is always so beautiful in the spring and the Kentucky Horse Park is one of the most beautiful equestrian facilities in all the world. So the setting is gorgeous and sets an ideal stage for this event. Second, while the competitive classes are the cornerstone of the event’s schedule, there is so much more…there are exhibitions, there are parties and open barns, there is a beautiful Gala and Art Auction, there are wonderfully informative seminars, and so much more. It’s truly an event that is an all-encompassing lifestyle experience. To call this a horse show would sell it short. It’s aptly named the “Event” because it truly is just that. And at the heart of it all, is an empassioned and loyal memberhip that loves the Egyptian Arabian, loves introducing newcomers to the Egyptain Arabians, and supports the Pyramid Society fervently.

The basic take-away lesson….we must focus on making our “competitive horse shows” more like “events” that offer a broad experience that goes much deeper than just winning a ribbon.

I’ve already marked my calendar for next year’s Egyptian Event. If you haven’t been…mark your calendar too and make a point of checking it out. Even if you aren’t into Egyptian Arabians, you’ll learn a lot, meet a lot of great people, and truly enjoy the experience of being here. Isn’t that what it’s all about??!! I think so…..

You are so right Jeff! The Egyptian Event rates second only to the World Cup Show in our book! Ricardo and I LOVE the whole atmosphere. It represents what we need at all the shows… A group of people celebrating a common lifestyle. The competitive edge is saved for the show ring and the comraderie amoungst the exhibitors is awesome!
