I recently had the privilege of visiting Mike Wilson Training Center in Florida. Joel Desmarteau and Mike Wade hosted me for my visit. I was there to see our exciting young imported stallion we own in partnership named Rough Justice, a son of WH Justice (www.homeofroughjustice.com). The colt was dazzling , but what I saw that was most impressive was the sense of community that surrounds Mike and Peri. A group of their clients were there the day I visited, including Kristi Waters, who owns the great young stallion named KM Bugotti. As each horse was presented that day, each client got excited and supported the horse as though it was their own. There was fun…there was enthusiasm…there was comraderie, and it was absolutely contageous. I was so pleased to be part of the group and to have a horse in a place where there is so much mutual appreciation and support.
So many times, I witness backstabbing and jealousy in this business. We all too often tend to drag each other down rather than pump each other up. Of course, this isn’t an absolute, and I know there are many other shining examples of what I witnessed at Mike and Peri’s during my recent visit, but I just get the feeling we could use a lot more of that. Couldn’t we?! I think we could….
Let’s make sure we remember that we are all part of a community, drawn together by our love and passion for the Arabian horse. Let’s celebrate not just our own victories…sales…acquisitions…and experiences – let’s celebrate as a community with and for each other. As clients of a traning center, plan events where you all get together and enjoy each other’s horses…and each other. The next time you’re headed to a show, plan an open barn…fire up the bbq…open that bar….and invite your fellow Arabian horse enthusiasts to join you. I know you’ll enjoy your Arabian horse experience more, and you might even sell a breeding or two…or maybe even a horse..but even if you don’t…I’m sure you’ll be reminded…as I was that day at Mike and Peri’s…how good it can be to just slow down and rejoice in how lucky we are just to be part of this great community of Arabian horse enthusiasts.
